Members of the Rotary Club of Whitburn’s ScotRail Volunteers Group were absolutely thrilled to unexpectedly lift two national ScotRail in the Community Awards at the presentation ceremony at the Voco Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow last week.
The group were delighted to win the Bronze Award for ‘Station of the Year’, having greatly improved the environment at Fauldhouse Railway Station. However, a greater surprise was the later announcement that the Club had won the Scottish Station ‘Adopter of the Year’ trophy. This recognises the huge amount of work put in by the team of Volunteers over the last year in transforming the Fauldhouse Station platforms with excellent displays of numerous planters with colourful displays of mixed flowers and shrubs.
Whitburn was the only Rotary Club in Scotland shortlisted for the award ceremony. Not resting on their laurels, the Club’s members are now in the process of setting about making further improvements in the planters at the station and improving Rotary signage.
Many locals in Fauldhouse have commented to the Club’s members just how much they appreciate the efforts of its Station Volunteers. Photos include some of the planters and members of the team with Judith Ralston (BBC Scotland Weather) who presented the award.
